Saving energy from redundant printers

An interesting discovery was made during the Graz workshops with regards to the energy consumption of redundant printers. Many of the devices are left switched on during the night and over the weekend for one reason only – to allow for the delivery of fax messages.

How then do we avoid wasting energy from printers when they are not being used? Simply turning the devices is not an option, as this will prevent any fax messages from being delivered. How about redirecting the faxes to a central device? This, however, would be an increase in effort for staff.

The solution was simple and feasible – to establish a digital fax-position. This allows for faxes to be delivered to the server rather than to multifunction printers. The fax-number will remain the same and the faxes are sent directly to the workstation.

That’s how energy efficiency works!
